The Soc Trang People’s Committee has issued a plan to organize the first official Ghe Ngo boat racing festival of Khmer people in Mekong River Delta – Soc Trang. Under the plan, the festival will take place from 14 to 17 of November, 2013.
The event is held to create unique culture products, develop tourism, and to the conserve, preserve and promote the traditional cultural values. There will be many fascinating activities in the 1st Ghe Ngo boat racing festival in Mekong River Delta – Soc Trang 2013 such as: the opening ceremony titled “Moon and Rice”, Occ om boc ceremony, “Khmer Fairy Garden” statue garden of Khmer culture, “Soc Trang memory” photo exhibition, “Soc Trang delicious dishes” gastronomy festival, Soc Trang trade expo, scientific workshop, folk games, art performance…
Together with teams in the Mekong River Delta, the organizing board will invite teams from Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar to the Ghe Ngo boat racing.
The organizers said this year’s festival will be held professionally with large scale because it is a symbol of national unity, pride and love of the country. This festival is meaningful about social culture, contributing to honor the cultural heritage, raise awareness of conserving the culture of Khmer people in the Mekong Delta in general
