On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification of Vietnam (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2025), Ho Chi Minh City is preparing to host an extensive and meaningful celebration that will highlight the historical significance of this milestone event. The People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has issued a detailed plan that outlines a series of ceremonies, parades, marches, cultural activities, and commemorative events to mark the golden anniversary of national reunification.

This historic celebration will be co-organized by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.

The primary event will take place from 6:30 a.m. on April 30, 2025, on Le Duan Street in District 1, with various activities extending to other central streets across the city. The entire program will be broadcast live on national and local television and radio stations including VTV1 and HTV, ensuring that the spirit of unity and patriotism reaches every corner of the country.

Ceremonial Events and Speeches

An artistic performance will open the day’s proceedings, setting a vibrant and emotional tone for the anniversary. Later in the program, a symbolic dove release will represent peace, unity, and aspirations for a brighter future.

Grand Parade and March

A key highlight of the celebration will be the grand parade and march scheduled for 8:00 a.m. on April 30, 2025. This impressive event is expected to feature over 13,000 participants, including members of the armed forces, police units, local organizations, and representatives from various social sectors. The Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security will coordinate the armed forces segment, while the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City oversees the overall execution.

The parade will consist of 35 groups, including 11 groups under Central guidance and a special contingent proposed by Ho Chi Minh City representing overseas Vietnamese communities. The procession will also feature a display of military vehicles and symbolic model cars carrying the National Emblem, the Party flag, and the national flag. A special tribute will be paid through cars carrying portraits of President Ho Chi Minh and models symbolizing five decades of national unity.

In a moment of deep national pride, the military parade will be accompanied by a 21-gun salute, performed to the tune of the Vietnamese National Anthem. An Air Force flyover is also planned as part of this grand tribute.

Commemorative Ceremonies and Community Engagement

Leading up to the main event, commemorative ceremonies will take place across several important historical sites in Ho Chi Minh City. On April 29 at 8:00 a.m., incense and flowers will be offered to fallen heroes at the Ho Chi Minh City Martyrs Cemetery, Lac Canh Cemetery, Ben Duoc Martyrs Memorial Temple, and other memorials in Cu Chi and Hoc Mon districts.

Additional tribute ceremonies will honor President Ho Chi Minh and President Ton Duc Thang, reaffirming their pivotal roles in Vietnam’s journey to independence and unity.

Furthermore, the city will host several activities to honor and support families of martyrs, individuals with meritorious contributions, veterans, former youth volunteers, and those who took part in the 1975 Spring Offensive. These events are designed to show deep gratitude and reinforce the strong connection between the past and present generations.

Cultural and Academic Activities

The 50th anniversary celebration will also serve as a platform to highlight the city’s development over the past half-century. A citywide patriotic emulation campaign will be launched to inspire innovation and community service. A special workshop will be held to reflect on the achievements of Ho Chi Minh City in nation-building, defense, and development since reunification.

Additionally, a series of cultural and artistic programs will take place, including a literature and art retrospective summarizing 50 years of post-reunification creativity. On the evening of April 30, the skies above Ho Chi Minh City will light up with a spectacular fireworks display.

Other notable programs include a national scientific conference on April 17, a photo exhibition titled Proud of a Border Strip, a special TV broadcast The Epic of Peace, an outdoor art performance The Country is Full of Joy, and a national television bridge event called Forever the Triumphant Song.
